SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Former Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle announced she will not seek the the 24th Congressional District seat.
She made the announcement on Wednesday morning. Buerkle ousted Dan Maffei from the seat in 2010, but lost to him in this year's election.
Over the summer, Buerkle was named as commissioner of the Consumer Product Safety Commission. She said the role has helped her realize she can be an effective advocate outside of Congress.
Buerkle adds she plans to stay politically involved, but did not elaborate on any future plans.
