SCHROEPPEL, N.Y. -- Some unhappy residents in Schroeppel are calling on the town supervisor to step down.
At a heated board meeting Thursday night, two board members motioned for supervisor Patrick Nugent to resign. A notice of claim was filed against Nugent by the Phoenix Fire Department over comments allegedly made by Nugent this past summer.
Nugent says he believes the legal process should play out, but those in favor of the resignation say it's more than just the threat of a lawsuit.
"This is probably not the only issue. I think you saw the community's reactions to what went on this evening. It speaks dearly for his actions around town," said Phoenix Fire Department President Peter Marsenison.
"I feel the best thing for our town and our constituents is that individual step down from that particular position that he has right now," said Richard Kline, a Schroeppel town board member.
The public wasn't given a chance to speak about the motion before board members voted and that motion ultimately failed by a vote of three to two.
Nugent declined to speak on camera.
