SENECA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Statements made by a Seneca County murder suspect both to police and to his wife will be allowed at trial.
Karl Karlsen is accused of killing his son in Waterloo back in 2008. Authorities say he caused a pickup truck to fall off a jack onto his son, Levi Karlsen, while he was working underneath, killing him.
Karl Karlsen has been charged with murder and insurance fraud because prosecutors say he filed a will for his son the day before his death. That will left everything to his father, including a $700,000 insurance policy taken out just a few weeks earlier.
Karlsen's defense had been trying to suppress statements he made last year while his wife was wearing a wire and later while he was being questioned by police. But a Seneca County judge ruled the statements were legally obtained.
Karlsen's trial is scheduled to begin October 21st.
