UTICA, N.Y. -- The family of Levon Wameling can finally lay the child to rest. A funeral service was held Wednesday morning at St. Joseph St. Patrick Church. About 200 people attended to pay their respects.
Levon disappeared back in May. Utica police and the community searched for the child for months. About a month ago, police found the child's body in the Mohawk River.
Levon would have turned one in August.
"I feel really bad for them and I hope this closes justice for Amy and gives her some closure that she can put Levon to rest now," said Renee Clark, a family friend.
Levon had a one inch skull fracture when he died, but police do not yet know the official cause of death.
The child's father, Jevon Wameling, was a person of interest in Levon's disappearance. He's currently in jail for unrelated charges.
