UTICA, N.Y. - Despite the dreary weather, nearly one-thousand people came out to support people with Downs syndrome.
The 18th Annual Buddy Walk for the Mohawk Valley kicked off with a mile long walk through the city of Utica.
This year's theme was "Every Buddy's A Hero."
Kathy Hartnett with Upstate Cerebral Palsy said "What we want them to take from the day is celebration and friendship that individuals with down syndrome are no different than anyone else. They are gifted, talents, have so much to offer, and to be friends with, that is our main message."
Event organizers say one in 700 babies are born with down syndrome in the country.
The Buddy Walk continued with music, food, and festivities.
