BLACK RIVER, N.Y. -- On Monday, a public hearing was held for North Country residents to ask questions about the new flood lines designated by FEMA.
People in the town of LeRay and village of Black River may have to purchase flood insurance. The new designations will affect some people more than others.
"People will be required to purchase flood insurance for those areas in which the buildings are in the flood plain," explained Dave Lachenauer, Code Enforcement Officer.
The people whose homes are no longer considered in the revised flood plain area will be able to drop their flood insurance. A vote is expected to happen in December with the new plain likely taking effect in January.
