AUBURN, N.Y. -- Workers at an Auburn manufacturer are getting some extra time to look for new jobs. Daikin McQuay announced it will keep its plant in the city open through 2015.
The plant was originally set to shut down in December 2014 and 51 employees would have lost their jobs this year. The company, which manufactures heating and ventilation equipment, employs more than 300 people total in Auburn.
Daikin says it will not reconsider the closing, but the company hopes the delay will help employees and the whole community. Economic development officials in Cayuga County say the decision will give them more time to find ways to reuse the building.
