ITHACA, N.Y. -- Friday marks one year since Ithaca Police Officer Anthony Augustine was shot following a chase in the city.
The man accused of pulling the trigger will stand trial for a second time. Jamel Booker will be back in court in mid December to face a charge of attempted murder. But we're told the District Attorney's office is currently in negotiations with Booker's attorney, but couldn't elaborate.
Booker was previously tried for attempted murder, but the jury could not reach a unanimous decision. They did, however, convict Booker on seven other, less serious charges.
On an unrelated note, Booker has now been indicted on a new charge, second degree assault, which the DA's office says stems from an injury he allegedly caused to a lieutenant in the county jail.
