SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Recent violence in the city of Syracuse has struck a nerve in many.
Mary Nelson, the organizer of the annual Youth Day barbecue decided to organize a 'Get Your Kids' rally against street violence.
She says parents need to know they have support, and wants to see more programs in schools for kids to keep them on the right path.
"This rally here today says get your kids. If we don't get our kids they're going to go through the criminal justice system. That's something we don't want. We don't want that," Nelson said.
The District Attorney's office and mentoring groups were all part of the rally.
