In August, Destiny USA celebrated its one year anniversary. But as YNN's Candace Hopkins reports, the mall is still growing. Revolutions Entertainment is the latest venue to open its doors.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Sunday afternoon, customers streamed into Revolutions Entertainment just hours after its doors opened. The newest venue lets you bowl, watch sports, grab dinner or drinks, or even watch live music.
"We really consider ourselves boutique bowling, here in the lanes you have full food and beverage service, high intensity lighting, upscale lighting, whether it be the mirror balls, and all lights, and of course the music is pounding", said General Manager Dave Sychtysz.
The facility is the latest addition to the Canyon Area of Destiny USA. In late August, Dave and Busters opened its doors, and in September, a Brazilian steakhouse arrived. The Cheesecake Factory is also expected to open its doors before the end of the year.
According to tourism officials, the growth is all paying off. Travel and Leisure Magazine predicted Destiny USA would become the second most visited shopping center in the country in 2013.
"We love the fact that we have many visitors coming our way from Canada and afar, needless to say, we all know Destiny USA is the future of Syracuse, and the growth is unlimited with lodging and more restaurants coming to the area", said Sychtysz.
Local customers have embraced the idea of having everything you could want under one roof.
"As a young adult in Syracuse, returning back to Syracuse, it's exciting because I remember growing up here and not really having a ton to do at night and this is good because it keeps you safe while you can still have fun, I think that's a nice idea", said Allison Sarenski, a Manlius resident.
"We come a lot, and it gives us something to do when the weather's not right outside, but today's a nice day out, but it was a good time to come in and do something inside just because it's new and fresh, and Syracuse needs that. We need to keep having places like this to boost the economy", said Sonya Miller, a Syracuse resident.
That boost can be seen immediately in the employment numbers. The opening of Revolutions created 136 jobs.
Many other retailers are also currently hiring, including Chicos, Pandora and Forever 21.
