MOHAWK VALLEY, N.Y. -- Lainey's Army, an animal advocacy group, is stepping up to help after a recent case of animal abuse in the Mohawk Valley. They're having a donation drive to help the Herkimer County Humane Society care for 12 neglected dogs.
The dogs were rescued this past weekend. They had been without food and water and all 12 of them are suffering from Lyme disease and mange.
The donation drive is being held on Commercial Drive in New Hartford. They opened their doors Tuesday afternoon and within a few hours, more than 200 people had donated.
Three rooms are filled with food, blankets, dog crates, cleaning supplies and hundreds of dollars worth in cash donations.
Organizers say people are coming from all over Central New York to donate.
Lainey's Army will be accepting donations again Wednesday from 2 to 7 p.m. They still need rawhides, chew toys, dish detergent, laundry soap and dry dog food.
