HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. -- It's been more than 14 years since the Columbine High School shootings, but even now, young people are still joining the fight to treat others with compassion.
'Friends of Rachel' clubs in Herkimer County held the first regional Rachel's Rally Wednesday. The club is named after Rachel Scott, the first victim of the Columbine High School shootings.
Frankfort-Schuyler students organized the rally with United Way and 11 area schools. The rally introduced other students to a program called 'Rachel's Challenge.'
"So the activities all centered around making sure students use kindness and compassion in solving any kind of a challenge they have in their lives," said Peter DeAnello, a Rachel's Challenger presenter.
Rachel's Challenge organizers say they encourage everyone to take a look at Rachel's story at www.rachelschallenge.org.
