There's a special effort Thursday to motivate women to stand strong against heart disease. A number of activities are planned as part of the Go Red for Women Luncheon at the Holiday Inn in Liverpool.
LIVERPOOL, N.Y. -This is a great opportunity for women and men to get motivated and take some action to improve their heart health. Heart disease is the number one killer of women 20 years and up, and kills one woman every minute.
More than 450 people are expected at the Liverpool Holiday Inn Thursday at the Go Red for Women Luncheon. People who attend will find health screenings, spa treatments, and can talk to experts with some lifesaving information. The event will also feature guest speakers and of course a healthy lunch.
If you can't make it Thursday health experts remind you that heart disease is 80 percent curable with diet, exercise, and quitting smoking.
You should also know your cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar numbers.
Health experts also say knowing the signs of a heart attack, and finding little ways to implement exercise daily is important
Anne Messenger, the Campaign Chair for the 2013 Go Red for Women says, "People can do very simple things like knowing their numbers, tracking their blood pressure, tracking their weight, those kinds of things. But you know simple things like, instead of taking the elevator, take the stairs. You're on the second floor, you're on the tenth floor, take the stairs."
Thursday's Go Red For Women Luncheon event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn on Electronics Parkway in Liverpool.
The expo and vendor fair will take place from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. with the luncheon program beginning at noon.
Tickets can be purchased at the door Thursday for $75.
