UTICA, N.Y. -- A $2 million expansion project is in the works for the F.X. Matt Brewery in Utica. By next year, they expect to grow their available capacity by about 40 percent.
As the brewery continues to expand and produce more beer, they've run out of room to ferment and age their product. They'll be purchasing four to six 1,500 barrel tanks to do that.
Brewery officials say they're still trying to figure out the best place to put the tanks.
"One alternative is to put them on Edwards Street, which is kind of across from our offices, and the other alternative is to put them just outside our current brew house toward Varick Street," said Nick Matt, F.X. Matt Brewery owner.
By adding more capacity, the brewery's owner says they will most likely add a second bottling shift, which potentially means the addition of about 15 to 20 jobs. The expansion will also involve adding more parking in Utica's brewery district.
