UTICA, N.Y. -- With just days until elections, Utica's mayor is offering his endorsement to a handful of democratic candidates. But one name not on that list is the democratic candidate for Utica's comptroller, Jim Zecca.
Instead, Mayor Rob Palmieri has chosen to back Bill Morehouse, the Independence Party candidate.
Morehouse is running against Zecca after losing to him in the democratic primary last month. Palmieri said his picks are for the future of the city.
"We're going to get a good deputy comptroller, we're going to get a good lawyer and we're going to move this city forward. I can't wait. It's an exciting time to be a Utican," said Morehouse.
Jim Zecca later issued a response, saying, “The mayor is showing astounding disloyalty by dismissing the decision the voters made on Primary Day. It’s shocking! The question is, what is the mayor afraid of?”
