SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Just a day after reaching a settlement with the State Attorney General's office, we're learning that a Syracuse mortuary school is closing its doors.
According to a message posted to its website, the Simmons Institute of Funeral Service is in the process of closing. The institute is no longer accepting applications for admission.
Wednesday, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced a settlement with the institute involving a sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuit.
The school and its president were accused of harassing female students and discriminating against pregnant women. The Simmons Institute agreed to implement reforms and pay $30,000 in restitution to those who filed complaints.
