ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Onondaga County Sheriff's office has identified the deputies involved in the shooting death of a suspect.
Michael Sica, 57, was shot and killed in the Town of Onondaga Tuesday.
Deputies responded to a home on Aitchison Road for a reported domestic dispute. Investigators say 31-year-old Deputy Daniel Butler was the first to arrive. He spotted Sica in a car and as he approached, investigators say Sica pointed a handgun at his face.
Butler was able to get to cover and call backup. Sica retreated to the home's garage, and deputies eventually heard a shot.
Sergeant Stan Rahrle, 49, and Deputy Michael Poindexter, 29, ran to the garage and saw Sica sitting in a chair. Sica then allegedly pointed his gun at them and they fired at him.
Sica was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rahrle is a 20 year veteran of the sheriff's office, while Butler and Poindexter have each been with the department five years.
The sheriff's office is still investigating the shooting to present to the District Attorney's office.
