SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- An early morning crash on 690 East in Syracuse turns fatal.
Officials say it happened around 4 o'clock Sunday morning past the Teall Avenue exit.
Police say Paul Drake, 36, of East Syracuse was on the side of the highway with his broken down car when Ryan Dearnaley, 27, of Fabius pulled off the road to try and help.
Officials say Drake and Dearnaley were standing outside their vehicles when the driver of an SUV hit the two men. All three were taken to the hospital.
Dearnaley later died of his injuries.
Drake and the driver of the SUV were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. No tickets have been issued at this time.
