SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The holiday tree has been cutdown, and is making it way to downtown Syracuse.
The Norway Spruce was cut down from a property on Route 11 on the Onondaga Indian Nation on Monday morning.
The city of Syracuse runs through a lengthy review process before selecting the final tree. This year's tree is from the LaForce family. Although the city typically accepts nominations, this year proved to be slightly different.
"The truth is we never entered it. They happened to stop by. They noticed it driving by 81 one day, they noticed it from the road. It caught their eye, so they stopped by two guys from the city of Syracuse. To talk to me and my mother about it to see if we wanted to donate it to the city of Syracuse," said Mike LaForce.
The holiday tree will be the centerpiece of the 2013 Home for the Holidays Celebration and Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, November 29.
