Today’s Animal of the Day pick goes to a litter of piglets from Church Hill Farm in Holland, New York. These little cuties were born on August 6th of this year, and there are eight piglets in their litter.
Their mother (a sow) is one year old and weighs 450 pounds! She is a Yorkshire breed pig.
The piglets nurse several times during the day, and were tumbling all over each other at one point trying to reach a teat.
I asked about the little jagged cuts in their ears, and I was told that they have their ears notched at birth to identify each one individually.
There are several different kinds of pigs in the barn, and plenty of piglets, too. They’re the main attraction, for sure!
