Polls open across the state
DEWITT, N.Y. -- Election Day has arrived and polls across New York State are open. In Onondaga County voters are casting their ballots at one of more than 200 polling sites.
The polls are open until 9 Tuesday night and voters will be coming to locations to vote in what is anticipated to be one of the most historic elections in our nation’s history.
Under state law each polling site is required to have one of the new Sequoia Image Cast systems to accommodate disabled voters. The brail on the keypad, along with audio from the computer, allows voters with limited sight to navigate through the choices and by just blowing into a device, voters with limited movement can cast their votes that way.

Right now most voters will still be using the lever machines. The old machines are expected to be phased out. If all goes as planned election officials say everyone will be using a new system starting next year.
The Democratic and Republican candidates for the 25th Congressional District cast their votes early in the day. Dan Maffei and Dale Sweetland are both hoping to replace retiring Congressman James Walsh. Both men say they think they have a good shot today. Green Populist candidate Howie Hawkins is voting in the afternoon.
