ALBANY, N.Y. -- A heated day in the courtroom as the trial for former Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno continued.
After jurors were sent home Thursday, the judge exploded at Bruno in the courtroom, thinking he may have made a gesture or a comment.
The judge said, "for once in your life, you don't control things. If we have a repeat of what I just saw and heard we will have a real problem."
Bruno forcefully responded, "I understand very clearly what's happening here. Very clearly."
It's unclear as to whether Bruno made the comment because he was frustrated the prosecution got the last word of the day or it was simply a misunderstanding and Bruno was talking to his attorney about an unrelated matter.
As for the day's other developments, Bruno's former chief of staff Ed Bartholomew testified Bruno's work with Wright Investor Service was separate from legislation. The prosecution argues Bruno failed to disclose a potential conflict of interest, while Bruno continues to maintain his innocence.
A Wright salesman also testified Thursday, saying Bruno directed his chief of staff to meet with him to help Wright make money. The salesman also said he wasn't only working with Senator Bruno, but also Senators George Maziarz and William Larkin, who apparently contacted unions on behalf of Wright.
We reached out to both senators named. Senator Maziarz got back to us, saying he has no ties to Wright Investors Service.
Bruno is facing eight counts of corruption for allegedly engaging in businesses relationships with companies pursuing legislation.
