Tentative deal for SUNY Empowerment
Lawmakers resumed their gavel-in, gavel-out routine on Thursday before heading home for the weekend. But before they left, a tentative deal was reached on a major sticking point holding up budget negotiations. The SUNY Empowerment Plan would allow state schools to set their own tuition. In a tentative deal between the Senate and Assembly, institutions could increase their rates by two to three percent for a period of three to five years. The governor, however, is not yet on board.
