The Spa Spot: Jockey Club projects small 2013 foal crop
The Jockey Cub announced Saturday that the projected foal crop for 2013 is the same number it estimated for this year: 24,700, the smallest foal crop since 1971, when 24,301 foals were registered.
The projection is made by computing the Reports of Mares Bred document it has received. The reports are due to be filed by August 1.
Matt Iuliano, The Jockey Club's executive vice president and executive director, also announced that foal crop projections for 2010 and 2011 have been revised downward by 1,500 foals for each year. The projected foal crop for 2010 is now 28,500 and the estimate for 2011 is now 25,500.
