BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The shooting forced the lockdown of Binghamton High School. Students say they were kept in their rooms from mid-morning until just past three in the afternoon. District officials say the lockdown was precautionary.

Students say the situation was hectic, as different information came in from friends, family and news reports. They say some classmates were worried loved ones might even be at the American Civic Association, but students say the school had police presence and was a safe place to be.

"We had SWAT team came in our school I think. So we were all safe in here. But it was just really scary at first. We didn't know what was going to happen," one student said.

"None of us knew what was going on or anything. We were all panicking and whatnot and not knowing what to do," said another student.
