American Civic Assoc. issues statement
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The American Civic Association is also responding to this tragedy. The president of the association spoke at Saturday's news conference expressing her grief over the situation but also to thank those who responded.

“Every ounce of our energies, caring and compassion is going to help those who are suffering through this tragedy and to this community. We ask that you do the same. Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their families,” said Angela Leach.

“We are stricken with grief about today's horrific assault and share this grief with the victims' families, our community and the entire nation. We are grateful for the efforts of law enforcement and particularly those who risked their own safety to bring this situation to an end. We also thank the Binghamton community and community organizations that are providing support in this time of need. We are working with law enforcement and all authorities in their investigation into this tragedy, and every ounce of our energies, caring and compassion will go where it belongs the most - to those who are suffering through this tragedy and to this community,” officials said in a statement on Friday.
