DOT considers commercial vehicle ban on the Onondaga Lake Parkway
It may be the solution to preventing crashes on the Onondaga Lake Parkway: the New York State Department of Transportation is considering banning all commercial vehicles from the Parkway in response to last year's Megabus crash. YNN’s Brad Vivacqua reports.

LIVERPOOL, N.Y. – We have seen our share of crashes into the Onondaga Lake Parkway bridge, and a new ruling by the state may be the solution to preventing future problems.
We spoke to William Reynolds with the Department of Transportation. He says the state is considering a ban to commercial vehicles, but no decision has been made at this point.
This ban comes after a Megabus crashed into the low bridge on the Parkway last year, killing four people.
New warning messages and rumble strips have already been added to the Parkway. This could ultimately re-route about three-thousand vehicles each day to Old Liverpool Road.
The state is planning to install a laser detection system that would be tripped by too tall trucks heading toward the Parkway bridge. The system would detect any truck over ten-feet- nine inches high, which is the clearance of the bridge. There will be flashing warning signs and police would be dispatched by the County 911 center.
The driver of the Megabus in last year’s crash, John Tomaszewski, faces four counts of criminal negligent homicide. He was driving the double-decker bus from Philadelphia to Syracuse.
