RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- It's been called the wedding of the year, the decade even the millennium and on Saturday night, in the normally quiet town of Rhinebeck, N.Y. just two hours north of New York City, the months-long guessing game about the marriage plans of Chelsea Clinton and her longtime beau, Marc Mezvinsky came to an end.
The couple made it official at the grand Astor Courts Estate at a private ceremony with family and friends. The mother and father of the bride announced the news together.
"Today, we watched with great pride and overwhelming emotion as Chelsea and Marc wed in a beautiful ceremony at Astor Courts, surrounded by family and their close friends. We could not have asked for a more perfect day to celebrate the beginning of their life together, and we are so happy to welcome Marc into our family. On behalf of the newlyweds, we want to give special thanks to the people of Rhinebeck for welcoming us and to everyone for their well-wishes on this special day,” said the Clintons.
Details about the reportedly lavish wedding have been tightly guarded. A source told us a rabbi and reverend were expected to marry the interfaith couple.
Chelsea has long shied away from the media limelight and she kept her distance from the cameras this weekend. Her parents, however, did not. They greeted town-folk on Friday night and the former president's lunchtime stroll caused chaos in the heart of Rhinebeck.
Chelsea and her investment banker husband became friends as teenagers and both went to Stanford University. They now live in New York City.
Security at the celebration was understandably tight, the FAA shut down the air space above the wedding site and the road to the party was closed off hours before the main event.
Back in town as guests partied the night away at a wedding that has captured the attention of so many, life started slowly returning back to normal.
