SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Preseason accolades are coming in for the SU football team.
Senior linebacker Derrell Smith has been named to the 2010 Bednarik watch list, the award given to the nation's top defensive player.
Smith led the Big East in forced fumbles last season.
And with Arthur Jones off to the NFL, Smith will be the leader of the SU defense this season.
As for filling the hole at nose tackle, that responsibility will likely fall to Junior College transfer Deon Goggins.
Goggins comes all the way from California to continue his college football career.
He says he even took his official visit last winter and still decided to come to Syracuse.
Goggins, though, isn't interested though in filling anybody's shoes, but he's promising to make a name for himself.
