SU women fall to Loyola in Big East semifinals

By: YNN Sports

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Playing for the second time in just seven days, the Loyola women's lacrosse team avenged its regular-season loss to Syracuse with a 12-11 win in the Big East tournament semifinals Thursday at Georgetown.

The third-seeded Greyhounds jumped out to a 6-0 lead on the second-seeded Orange before SU started to come back. The Orange got within 12-11 with 1:12 remaining and won the ensuing draw, but a turnover gave the ball back to Loyola with 56 seconds remaining and the Greyhounds were able to run out the clock.

Syracuse (10-8) now has to hope for an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, which will announce its field Sunday night. Helping the Orange is a No. 15 ranking in both national polls, the No. 13 RPI in the country and nine ranked opponents on its schedule, but the team is only 1-8 in those games.
