Baseball hall of famer Johnny Bench returned to Cooperstown Tuesday to host a charity golf tournament for a good cause.

Bench, who was the catcher for Cincinnati's Big Red Machine in the 1970s and is a 1989 inductee into the hall of fame, hosted the annual Seniors Open Pro-Am that raised more than $50,000 for a local charity.

The money will go to the Pathfinder Village in nearby Edmeston, a residential community for kids and adults with Down syndrome.

Bench says he was honored to be asked to host the event and become the latest in a long line of baseball legends to visit the village, a list that includes former Red Sox great Jim Rice.
