ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Ithaca high school girls hockey team shutout Potsdam at Cass Park Saturday afternoon. Ithaca got goals from Krystalyn Yonkin and Jackie Cornell to win the game 2-0.
The first period was scoreless but in the second Ithaca took advantage of a mistake by Potsdam to steal the puck deep in the Sandstoner end and got a goal to take a 1-0 lead.
In the third period things got chippy between Abby Tardelli and Madison Gneo. Tardelli didn't like how Gneo crashed the net looking for a rebound and so the pair got into a fist fight. The refs ejected both players.
Then with just twelve seconds left Potsdam pulled their goalie with a face off deep in the Ithaca zone, but the move backfired when Ithaca won the face off and Jackie Cornell took it the other direction for the empty netter.
