VESTAL, NY--It's usually pretty tough to go from first to worst in just one season in college basketball, but it only took Lazarus Sims 73 miles to do it.
The former SU point guard left his alma mater earlier this week to take a job as an assistant coach at Binghamton University. Sims is fourth all-time in assists at S-U Sims also played 12 pro seasons in five different US leagues including a stint with the Harlem Globetrotters.
Now after spending five years on the Orange staff as the coordinator of player development this will be "Z's" first true coaching gig. While it was tough for him to leave his alma mater, he says he learned a lot from Coach Boeheim and hopes to get the Orange back on the Bearcats schedule someday.
Sims will also be joined by Ben Luber, a former assistant of Binghamton coach Tommy Dempsey at Rider, on the BU sidelines.
