LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - After going more than three years between complete-game shutouts from one of their pitchers the Syracuse Chiefs now have three this month and two in a row after Jeff Mandel shut down Gwinnett in a 7-0 win on Sunday.
Mandell allowed six hits, no walks, and struck out four in following up John Lannan's gem on Saturday. On the offensive side Eury Perez continued his hot streak since being promoted with a triple and two RBI, giving him at least one hit in 34 of the 37 games he has played with Syracuse and a .336 batting average.
The win kept Syracuse's impossible wild card chances alive as their elimination number remains at one with eight games remaining.
