BUFFALO, N.Y. - The SUNY Cortland defense must be thankful for a two-week break until the Red Dragons' next game after allowing 705 yards in a 49-31 season-opening loss at Buffalo State on Saturday.

Buffalo State quarterback Casey Kacz completed 30 of 42 passes for 579 yards and five touchdowns and the Bengals also had a formidable ground attack with Rich Pete rushing for 103 yards and two touchdowns on just 12 carries.

For SUNY Cortland, Chris Rose completed 17 of 27 passes for 227 yards and four touchdowns but was intercepted four times. Mike Humphrey had six receptions for 143 yards and three touchdowns.

Next up for the Red Dragons is their home-opener against Western Connecticut State on Saturday, Sept. 15.
