Notre Dame to join SU in the ACC
SOUTH BEND, I.N. -- Notre Dame will join Syracuse University and Pittsburgh in the ACC. The school announced today that it would join the conference in all sports except football. However, Notre Dame did commit to play five football games against ACC schools each year.
The addition of Notre Dame adds another basketball rival to the league for Syracuse, which will join the league in all sports next summer. Not having annual games against rivals like Notre Dame, Georgetown and Connecticut left some fans upset when S.U. announced its departure.
It's unclear at this point when Notre Dame will join the league, but the Big East requires 27 month’s notice. Syracuse was granted approval to leave with shorter notice, but paid the Big East a higher exit fee.
Once Notre Dame joins the league, the ACC will have 15 basketball members.
