UTICA, N.Y. - The latest edition of the oldest high school football rivalry in the state was no contest as Proctor rolled over Rome Free Academy 65-20.
High schools in Utica and Rome started playing each other in football in 1891 and recent history has sided with Proctor as the Raiders have now beaten the Black Knights in five of the last seven meetings. This year's game was given added importance as the teams are in the same league for the first time in 2006.
Proctor quarterback Jordan Treen completed 9 of 13 passes for 171 yards and four touchdowns, three of which were caught by Naronn Harvey. Chris Simmons and Lawrence Elliott each scored two touchdowns for the Raiders, who improve to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in Class AA-1.
The Black Knights fall to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.
