SKANEATELES, N.Y. - Just like last year the Skaneateles football team is undefeated heading into the postseason, but unlike last year the Lakers will have a chance to go all the way this time.
Skaneateles' playoff run was cut short last season when Section III disqualified the team due to illegal recruiting tactics used by some members of the coaching staff during the prior offseason. The Lakers ended with a 9-0 record but had to watch as they were replaced in the Class C playoffs during the week of the sectional championships.
In spite of that heartbreak, as well as the resignation of head coach Tim Green and the graduation of 17 seniors, the remaining group pulled together, put the past behind, and focused on the present, leading to a 6-0 regular season, a No. 8 state ranking this week, and the No. 2 seed in the Section III Class C-1 playoffs. First up is No. 7 Sherburne-Earlville Friday night starting at 7 p.m.
