HERKIMER, N.Y. - The Herkimer County Community College men's soccer team has owned the NJCAA Region III tournament for the past 22 years and is looking to make it 23 in a row this weekend on its home field at Wehrum Stadium.
In addition to the pressure from the streak the Generals have to contend with arguably the toughest final four in tournament history as each of the teams is ranked in the national top 10: No. 1 Genesee, No. 2 Herkimer, No. 7 Tompkins Cortland, and No. 10 Adirondack. On top of that is additional pressure from Region III not having an at-large bid to the national tournament this year and that tournament being hosted by Herkimer, so if the Generals fail to win they'll both lose their streak and have to sit by and watch other teams play for the ultimate prize on their home turf.
Herkimer plays Adirondack Saturday at noon followed by Genesee and TC3 at 3 p.m. The championship game is Sunday at 1 p.m.
