The Herkimer County Community College men's soccer team and Mohawk Valley Community College women's soccer team are each ranked No. 1 in NJCAA Division III, are each three wins away from a national championship, and neither will have to go far to get it done this week.
Herkimer is hosting the men's tournament and is going for its second-straight title, its third in five years, and its ninth overall. The Generals play Brookdale from New Jersey in the quarterfinals Thursday starting at 11 a.m.
Mohawk Valley's tournament is at Tompkins Cortland and also begins Thursday. The Hawks, who won a national championship in 2003, play Holyoke from Massachusetts starting at 5:30 p.m.
The semifinals for both tournaments are Friday and the championship games are Sunday.
