Why did you sign up for Iron Girl?
I started running several years ago, because I wanted to lose weight. Running wasn't my favorite activity, so when I heard about triathlons, I thought the variety of activity would keep me interested and motivated. There were a couple problems with pursuing the sport. I didn't know how to swim and I didn't own a bike. I decided to take swimming lessons to learn how to swim. I did learn, but quickly became injured due to an undiagnosed hairline fracture to my clavicle from a car accident that occurred a couple years before. The doctors told me I probably would not be able to swim for exercise due to this injury. For the next several years I focused on running longer races. I mentioned to a colleague of mine who happened to be a swim coach and triathlete how I wished I could compete in a triathlon, but couldn't due to my injury. She thought that she might be able to help me with my form which might lead to being able to swim without pain. To my amazement, it worked! I bought a bike the following spring and competed in my first triathlon, the Skinnyman, that same year. Last year, I competed in the Iron Girl. For both of these races my goal was to finish. I signed up for the Fleet Feet Training Program to help me improve my times, form, and train with a team for this year's Iron Girl.
