SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- There's a new sectional title contender in high school boys basketball.
The mighty Atoms of the Syracuse Academy of Science are playing like mad scientists right now, undefeated and in first place in only their fourth season of existence.
A little Class D school on the near West side of Syracuse, the Atoms have gone from 0-16 four years ago to 5-0 already this season.
They are one of the great early stories in local boys hoops.
They already are only one win short of their total from a year ago.
The Atoms are actually talking about winning a section 3 title and going all the way to the state finals.
It's pretty heady stuff considering where they started from.
SAS took over first place from Port Byron Wednesday night, and they'll look to continue the perfect season tomorrow night at Faith Heritage.
