GENEVA, N.Y. - The SU lacrosse team built a six-goal halftime lead and then hung on to beat Hobart for the 6th straight time Tuesday night, 13-12 at Bosley Field in Geneva.
The Orange got five goals in the first half from sophomore Derek Maltz, who finished with a career-high six tallies on the night, and took a commanding 10-4 lead heading into halftime.
But the Statesmen outscored Syracuse 5-1 in the third quarter to crawl within two heading to the final 15 minutes.
Hobart sophomore Alex Love scored with 8.4 seconds remaining to make it a one-goal game but on the ensuing faceoff Syracuse was able to kill the rest of the clock to seal the victory.
The Orange (7-5) have won 25 of the 27 contests for the Kraus-Simmons Trophy and ten straight games in Geneva. Syracuse takes a two-game win streak into its final two games of the regular season against Georgetown at the Carrier Dome Saturday and at Notre Dame on April 28.
