SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Upstate all-stars finally gave their Downstate counterparts a good battle in the third annual New York State High School Football Classic on Sunday at the Carrier Dome, but Downstate remained undefeated in the event with a 27-23 win.

Downstate, which won the first two games 36-7 and 41-7, jumped out to a 13-0 lead after the first quarter before former East Syracuse-Minoa quarterback Tyler Johnson rallied Upstate to take a 17-13 lead at halftime. Downstate re-took the lead in the third quarter, extended it to 27-17 in the fourth quarter, and managed to hang on from there.
