SYRACUSE, N.Y. - There's a saying that three is a magic number and the Syracuse University field hockey team is not about to argue with a trio of Irish imports helping the undefeated Orange grab the top spot in this week's national poll.
Graduate senior Liz McInerney was the first to come over two years ago and that led to freshmen Emma Russell and Gillian Pinder making the move this year. The three are among SU's top eight scorers this season with a combined 11 goals and 10 assists in nine games.
Syracuse, which is No. 1 for the first time since 2008, will try to earn its fifth win against a ranked opponent this Saturday when it hosts No. 25 Louisville starting at noon. The Orange have another home game Sunday against Yale starting at 2 p.m.
