BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Even though the NFL and college football won't get under way until August, there is a football league kicking off next weekend and they have spent ten to fifteen hours a week practicing since October. But the football players might not be who you expect.

The Binghamton Tiger Cats are a women’s football team that has been in the Binghamton area since 2008. Players come from all walks of life and enjoy getting a crack at a sport that is generally perceived as an activity solely for men.

Tiger Cat quarterback, Christine Horowitz, was invited to the Binghamton Rotary on Tuesday to talk about some of the challenges of being a woman and a football player at the same time. Horowitz, who joined the team on a dare, says that it’s all about getting a chance to do something out of the ordinary.

"It's not about aggression, really, it’s about having the opportunity to do things that women have never been able to do and to gain that confidence that women need," Horowitz said.

The Tiger Cats are the second longest running women's football team in New York State, second to the New York Sharks out of Brooklyn.
