Three adults bitten by rabid fox

Three adults bitten by rabid fox

ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Health officials in Oneida County are urging the public to keep away from stray or wild animals. This comes after the latest case of animal rabies in the area.

Officials say a rabid fox attacked and bit three adults in the town of Augusta Sunday. All three victims have begun post-exposure treatments.

It's the fifth confirmed case of animal rabies in the county this year and the fourth involving human contact.

In addition to avoiding wild animals, pet owners are urged to make sure their pets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations. The county sponsors rabies clinics throughout the year, with the next scheduled for June 20th.
