Schumer reacts to Canastota derailment
CANASTOTA, N.Y. -- Senator Charles Schumer has issued a response to Wednesday's train derailment. He’s specifically calling on the Federal Railroad Administration to investigate the accident and others that have taken place within the last 18-months including last March's Oneida County incident.
"[Wednesday's] event is just the latest reminder that CSX's persistently troubling safety record continues to threaten communities across Central New York. It's time we got serious about demanding they step up investments in performance and safety,” Schumer said.

In a recent FRA investigation more than 3,500 safety defects were found in CSX's 23-state rail operations. They were fined $350,000, an amount Schumer calls "modest."
