DOT: State needs funding to meet transportation needs
CENTRAL NEW YORK – The state's DOT says in a 20 year span, New York needs $175 billion to meet transportation demands.
DOT officials are traveling around the state getting input on the 20 year proposal. Leaders from different agencies, such as the Thruway Authority and Syracuse University, had a chance to discuss the proposal Monday.
DOT officials say securing funding from federal and state governments is the next task.

"If we don't make the case and we don't ask for it, we're not going to get it. We are optimistic that when we lay out the needs at the state and federal level, the resources will be made available," said Stan Gee, NYSDOT Executive Deputy Commissioner.
More than $30 billion is projected to be spent on bridges. The DOT says without proper repairs and maintenance, 1,500 bridges will become deficient over the next five years.
