CANTON, N.Y. -- Students from SUNY Canton looked through racks of professional clothing, finding that perfect interview outfit. All the clothes were free, gently used donations that would would work in a professional setting.

"When I checked out the clothes, it was really nice. There's a lot of donations, a lot of clean suits and clean shirts where I picked this one from," said SUNY Canton student Alex Berkoh.

The Professional Clothing Fair took place in the Campus Center, which was a convenient location for community members, and especially students.

"They don't have to go anywhere. They can come in between classes, during their lunch hour. We were open yesterday evening until 7, so it's a perfect opportunity for the students," said Betty Connolly, SUNY Canton's Director of Human Resources.

The volunteers said that on the first day of the sale, they had more than 200 people show up, and the majority of those shoppers were students.

"It's a good opportunity for the kids that don't have the money to get the clothes. Kids that are from outside of school, it's a really good opportunity. You can really look nice, not only to work but to class and to church," said Berkoh.

And some students weren't just shopping for themselves at the fair.

"I even had a student who called his mom to see what size she was, because he wanted to get a blazer for her. I just thought that was so sweet," said Connolly.

After the students are finished shopping, the items from the Professional Clothing Fair will be donated throughout the community.

Next year SUNY Canton is hoping to expand the fair even further, holding mock interviews, and maybe even having students model some professional attire.
